In a world where information and communication technologies have become so widespread and penetrated into all areas of our lives and nothing remains the same, the importance of information is undoubtedly increasing, and “valuable knowledge” provides businesses with a strategic competitive advantage. Our department was established in 2021 under Afyon Kocatepe University Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, takes mission to provide comprehensive answers to the main questions such as “How can complex business problems be solved using information technologies?”, and “How can information technologies be used to achieve business goals?” With this awareness, it is aimed to fill the gap between information technologies and business with our curriculum consisting of both technical and business courses that we provide to our students. Our department aims to provide its students with universal qualifications with the education and other social activities it will provide for 4 years, to add value to businesses operating in all regions of Turkey, especially Afyonkarahisar, and all global institutions by raising employable qualified graduates.
Since our department serves as a bridge between information technologies and businesses, it provides its students with technical courses such as Programming, Cyber Security, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Coding and Robotics, as well as the introduction of management to business such as Introduction to Business Science, Management and Organization, General Accounting and Business Mathematics. In addition, courses in which human and employee psychology are covered in detail, such as Behavioral Sciences, Organizational Behavior and Human Resources Management, are also given to our students. All these courses are conducted by faculty members who are experts in their fields. While creating the course curricula, a structuring in parallel with the strategic goals of the department was ensured, the expectations of the industry from the university and our faculty were taken into account within the scope of university-industry cooperation, and methods and practices that would increase the employability of students were emphasized. In addition, the Career Planning course has been included in the curriculum in order to raise conscious students in the first semester of the second year. All the aforementioned courses are given in the classrooms of our faculty, which are ready with projections and other infrastructure. However, in case of need, our university’s laboratories can also be used in the context of adding service to practical knowledge. The employment opportunities of our graduates draw a broad outlook. Graduates of Management Information Systems can work in professions such as Project Manager, Business Analyst/Consultant, Application Analyst, Software Consultant, Data Analyst or Data Engineer in the private and public sectors. In addition, our graduates can continue their careers as entrepreneurs in line with the benefits provided by courses such as Entrepreneurship and Business Plan, International Marketing and Foreign Trade and E-Commerce Site Design in the curriculum. The physical and social infrastructure of both our university and our faculty has developed at a level that will serve the development of our students.
