The “Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Themed Web Projects Exhibition” organised by students of the Department of Management Information Systems (MIS) at Afyon Kocatepe University (AKU) Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences (FEAS), was officially opened with a ceremony.

The exhibition, held at the FEAS building, showcased digital projects and websites developed by students as part of their Web Design course, drawing significant interest from participants.

“Informatics Skills Combined with Social Benefit”

Speaking at the opening, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fatih Özdinç, Head of the MIS Department, noted that various projects have been implemented in line with the university’s student-oriented education and assessment vision. Özdinç stated, “We chose Sustainable Development Goals as a theme to foster awareness among our students. Our goal is to prepare them for professional life with this consciousness and to combine their informatics skills with projects that provide social contributions.” He also highlighted that the exhibition included web projects addressing contemporary social issues such as social media, digital gaming, and online gambling addiction, alongside SDG targets.

“An Exemplary Practice Preventing Paper Waste”

Prof. Dr. Volkan Göçoğlu, a faculty member at FEAS, emphasized the environmental impact of presenting projects digitally, saying, “Conducting this exhibition without using paper while pursuing sustainable development goals is an exemplary practice for preventing waste.” Prof. Dr. Emine Hesna Kandır, AKU Sustainability Coordinator, reminded the audience of the importance of tracking UN targets against global challenges like climate change and resource depletion, thanking the academics and students who contributed to the process.

“A Vital Seed Sown for the Future”

Prof. Dr. Gökhan Demirtaş, Dean of FEAS, expressed that sustainability holds vital importance for the world. Emphasizing that every effort in the fight against the climate crisis is valuable, Demirtaş said, “This event is a beautiful seed sown for the future. We hope to see even more advanced versions of these projects. We will continue to contribute together for a sustainable world.”

Student representative Güzelnur Kardaş also delivered a speech, mentioning that they planned a beneficial and engaging event for both themselves and the visitors, expressing gratitude to all faculty members for their support.
