A New Approach to Dental Health with Artificial Intelligence: Automatic Detection of Wisdom Teeth
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gür Emre Güraksın from our university’s Computer Engineering faculty and Research Assistant İsmail Kayadibi from our department have developed a new artificial intelligence-based method in the field of dentistry. In their study, they developed an innovative artificial intelligence model using explainable artificial intelligence approaches and deep learning techniques to automatically detect wisdom teeth from panoramic X-rays.
This innovative model supports clinical decision-making processes by enabling the detection of wisdom teeth with high accuracy and contributes to the integration of artificial intelligence-based diagnostic systems into dental applications.
The research results improve early diagnosis and surgical planning processes in dentistry and enhance the quality of patient care. Furthermore, the study directly contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals of “Good Health and Well-being” (SDG-3) and “Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure” (SDG-9).
